Taiwan update: Urgent medical treatment for crews in international waters

The update to Taiwan’s anti-pandemic measures came from Britannia P&I Club citing information from correspondents in the country.

The new measure is addressed to crews sailing in international waters and calling international ports, who could still require medical treatment at hospital for non-infectious disease such as injury, toothache or cellulitis.

We wish to draw your attention that under the new measure, crew’s condition shall be first evaluated by “Treatment on Telemedicine” to decide if the crew need to receive treatment at hospital.

Exception: If crew is haemorrhaging, is in delirium or vital signs are not stable, the Master can just notify the relevant authority and arrange crew for urgent medical treatment per The Seafarer Act, without having crew evaluated by “Treatment on Telemedicine” first.
