KSOE develops digital twin ship technology for ship testing

The company announced earlier this week that it has obtained approval in principle (AIP) from UK-based classification society Lloyd’s Register for its “virtual vessel test solution for LNG carriers”, reports by Business Korea mention.

As explained, the solution allows a shipbuilder to verify the performance of an LNG carrier’s engine, fuel supply system, and power control system in a virtual environment, which is exactly the same as the test operation environment in the sea.

Digital twins provide a virtual model of a physical ship, producing valuable insights from data. The advantages of this technology is that it can simulate how the ship will perform without needing to test it in the real world, cutting also testing costs. KSOE claims the technology could save testing costs by up to 30%.
