Engineering company launches mooring technology, reducing fuel consumption

The engineering group launched the MoorMaster NxG, in efforts to reduce fuel consumption.

The innovation will enable vessels calling and leaving ports and allow mooring to take as little as 30 seconds.

Usually, mooring operations of anchoring ships to port using ropes and chains can take up to an hour, and sometimes come with challenges that may lead to fatalities.

Moreover, the technology reduces the level of harmful emissions by as much as 98 per cent during mooring leading to a healthier environment for port employees and nearby communities.

Mikael Norin, Cavotec CEO, commented that

As the inventors of vacuum mooring, we’ve used every minute of data from 20 years’ service to redesign MoorMaster from the ground up, to deliver faster, smarter installation, improved performance, continuous monitoring and easier maintenance.

It is added that the technology will be used at Oslo Fjords, where the fully electric ships will sail autonomously from port to port thereby replacing two million kilometres of truck transport, saving 5,000 tonnes of CO2 every year.
