ABS enters IWSA to boost wind propulsion solutions

It is known that during the years, the class society has increasingly focused on wind propulsion systems.

To remind, back in June 2020, ABS issued its “Wind-Assisted Propulsion System Installation” guide, in order to provide safety standards when installing wind-assisted systems.

In light of the situation, ABS stated:

As a leading class society, ABS has a commitment to support, promote and develop sustainability oriented technologies and measures for the Marine and Offshore industry. Wind Assisted and Wind Powered vessels are one of the drivers towards achieving sustainable operations and reducing GHG emissions reductions set by the IMO. As such, ABS is happy to make a significant contribution to this sector and to participate in the International Windship Association.

As explained, International Windship Association (IWSA) facilitates and promotes wind propulsion for commercial shipping worldwide, while goals to bring together all parties in the development of a wind-ship sector to shape industry and government attitudes and policies.

Following ABS joining, IWSA commented:

We are very pleased to welcome three new members to the International Windship Association and look forward to working closely together to develop a wind propulsion powered fleet in the future.
