Stiefel appointed as BV's Central Europe manager

Classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) has appointed Rolf Stiefel as its new Regional Chief Executive for Central Europe with effect from 1 May.
Rolf Stiefel succeeds Dr. Hans Gaetjens who is retiring in July following a two month hand-over period. Stiefel will be based in Hamburg and will be responsible for Central Europe – Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Russia.
Rolf Stiefel’s most recent position was at engine designer WinGD, where he led sales of its slow speed diesel and gas engines. He combines technical expertise with familiarity with the environmental issues facing the marine industry.
Herman Spilker, North Europe Zone Vice President, Bureau Veritas, commenting, said, “Rolf is a very welcome addition to our team. He will provide the leadership we need at this challenging time for the industry and in a very important area of activity for BV. He combines the technical expertise and market facing skills that are necessary for this role.”
Rolf Stiefel noted that “The marine industry will need safe, reliable and feasible technical solutions and services to be ready for the future. I am also convinced that my main engine experience will be useful as ship propulsion and fuels will be such a vital aspect of getting the industry safely to 2050.”
