OOCL Names Newest 24,188 teu Containership ‘Felixstowe’ in China

The Hong Kong-based shipping company Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL) recently marked the official naming of its latest containership, the “OOCL FELIXSTOWE,” at the COSCO Dalian Kawasaki Shipyard in Dalian, China. With an impressive capacity of 24,188 TEU, this vessel ranks among the largest containerships in the world.

The FELIXSTOWE represents the fourth in a series of twelve containerships being constructed by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry for OOCL. Earlier this year, the “OOCL SPAIN,” “OOCL PIRAEUS,” and “OOCL TURKIYE” from the same series were delivered by COSCO.

Distinguished by their incorporation of cutting-edge technology, these ships feature intelligent systems and enhanced eco-friendly designs. Notable innovations include an energy-efficient bulbous bow and streamlined low-resistance design. OOCL is banking on these immense vessels to yield economies of scale, energy efficiency, and, over the long term, heightened navigational safety.

Operating within the Asia-Europe LL3 loop, the OOCL Felixstowe will traverse the route with its three sister ships. This route encompasses Shanghai, Xiamen, Nansha, Hong Kong, Yantian, Caime, Singapore, Piraeus, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Valencia, Piraeus, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, and finally, Shanghai.
