NYK Line Receives “Freesia Leader,” a New LNG-Powered PCTC in Delivery Ceremony

On July 24th, the LNG-powered Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) named “FREESIA LEADER” was delivered to NYK Line in a ceremony at the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) Co

The delivery ceremony took place at the Port of Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture, where “FREESIA LEADER” received LNG fuel from “Kaguya,” an LNG bunkering ship operated by Central LNG Marine Fuel Japan Corporation—a joint venture involving NYK and other companies.

This Liberia-registered vessel has a capacity of 7,000 CEU and measures approximately 200m in length. It will transport finished vehicles for Toyota Motor Corporation and other clients aiming to reduce their environmental impact. The ship is named after the Freesia flower, symbolizing the aspiration to promote a prosperous global environment through eco-friendly transportation.

FREESIA LEADER” is the third LNG-operated PCTC built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) Co. for NYK, out of a contracted total of four. The first, named “Jasmine Leader,” was received by NYK in February, serving vehicle transportation between Europe and the Middle East. NYK plans to acquire 20 new LNG-fueled PCTCs by 2028.
