Burckhardt Compression has acquired the global compressor business arm from Japan Steel Works (JSW).
Burckhardt Compression’s technology is widely used on board LPG and LNG carriers and LNG-fuelled vessels. JSW is a diversified manufacturer of steel, power plant equipment and industrial machinery.
Under the deal, JSW shall transfer its compressor business including after service support to existing users to Burckhardt Compression and its global affiliates, who are running compressor business as their primary business. Burckhardt Compression (Japan) Ltd, headquartered in Yokohama, will also assume responsibility for the local customer relationship management.
With the acquisition Burckhardt Compression is strengthening its market presence in Japan. In 2018 Tokyo-headquartered JSW generated overall sales of €1.8 billion with approximately 1-2% of the overall sales estimated to be generated in the compressor business. Both parties agreed not to disclose the acquisition price.
