Westports Holdings Bhd (Westports) has set a new container volume record by handling 23,183 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in a single vessel.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Westports said the remarkable milestone was performed on the “CMA CGM Antoine de Saint Exupery”, a French container ship between Nov 4 and 6 during its regular eastbound French Asia Line 1 service.
“The achievement reflects the commitment and dedication of Westports’ staff in planning and carrying out the operations seamlessly for our clients.
“The terminal continues to play its role as the leading and pre-eminent port for the nation’s gateway trade and also as one of the main transhipment hubs in Southeast Asia for international container shipping alliances,” it said.
Westports said it has deployed nine ship-to-shore cranes to perform the task on the 400-metre-long vessel.
“The Westports’ team worked around the clock and achieved extremely high overall vessel productivity levels by attaining 286 vessel gross moves per hour in the 46 hours of operations,” it added.
