New York-listed offshore driller Transocean has won a $137m contract in Australia for another one of its semisubmersible rigs.
The Swiss-based owner and operator of 37 rigs has sealed a deal with an undisclosed major for the 2015-built
Transocean Equinox to carry out a five-well campaign.
The contract for the rig, which has been idle since last October, should start in the first quarter of 2024 and last for about 300 days. The deal excludes mobilisation fees and comes with a one-well option attached that could potentially keep the rig utilised in Australia through the first quarter of 2025.
End-March, Transocean fixed another 2015-built semi, the Transocean Endurance, on a multi-well plug and abandonment project in Australia. The $91m contract starts in January 2024 and comes with a series of options attached that could keep the rig busy through the fourth quarter of 2025.
