Danish renewable energy developer Ørsted and Hitachi Energy have extended their offshore wind farm collaboration by three more years.
The two firms extended a framework agreement which will see Hitachi Energy continuing to support Ørsted’s global offshore wind farms.
The projects which Hitachi will be supporting will include the 1.5GW Skåne offshore wind farm in Sweden, subject to award to Ørsted. The 1.5GW Skåne will be developed 22 kilometres south of Trelleborg in Sweden’s exclusive economic zone. It will have an annual production of 7TWh. The investment is expected to be around $2.25bn.
Hitachi has been working with Ørsted for a decade and has supplied several orders from Ørsted over the years, including a substantial contract for the entire transmission system for the world’s largest offshore wind farm – the 2.8GW Hornsea 3 in the UK.
The collaboration between Ørsted and Hitachi Energy also encompasses the provision of transformers, high-voltage switchgear, and power quality systems, along with digital innovations including energy market management as well as automation and communication systems.
“We plan to employ more than 2,000 new employees during the next two years in Sweden and this agreement supports our expansion plans,” Tobias Hansson, country managing director at Hitachi Energy.
