Bangladeshi owner MJL Bangladesh has ordered an LR2 tanker at DH Shipbuilding in South Korea.
The yard, formerly Daehan Shipbuilding, which has mostly attracted Greek tanker owners, will bank around $74m from the deal.
The LNG-ready 115,000 dwt vessel is expected to be on the water in 2026.
MJL Bangladesh, formerly known as Mobil Jamuna Lubricant, is a joint venture between EC Securities, a subsidiary of East Coast Group, and the state-owned Jamuna Oil Company.
The nation’s top lubricant company already has one 2005-built LR2 and three LPG carriers. It opted to buy a new ship last year on the back of increasing prices and higher maintenance and operations costs for secondhand tonnage.
