Lepta Shipping signs for four LPG carriers


Tokyo-headquartered Lepta Shipping has ordered four midsize gas carriers at Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding (YAMIC).

The joint venture between Nissen Kaiun and Mitsui & Co has tapped the joint venture between China’s Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and Japan’s Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding to deliver the 40,000 cu m ships in 2026 and 2027.

No price has been revealed for the quartet, Clarksons Research has tied to a charter with Exmar. Prices quoted by other brokers suggest a deal worth around $67m apiece.

The Brussels-listed Exmar said in its first-half earnings report that its joint venture with Seapeak, formerly Teekay LNG Partners, had sealed a deal for four newbuilds with extensions and purchase options attached.

Lepta has previously ordered boxships and cape and kamsarmax bulkers at Yangzijiang Group.
