Ernst Russ boosts fleet with boxship buy

Germany’s Ernst Russ is expanding its fleet with the acquisition of 2,194 teu containership for an undisclosed sum.

The Hamburg-based company has already taken delivery of the 2017 Chinese-built vessel and renamed it Frida Russ.

The ship has been bought with a 20-month charter attached, with an option for a further three months.

“With this investment, the Ernst Russ Group is further expanding its shipping portfolio and contributing to the desired rejuvenation of the group’s own fleet,” the company said.

Ernst Russ, which currently manages a fleet of 31 fully consolidated vessels, also recently acquired the 1,025 teu Bakkafoss in a joint venture with Iceland’s Eimskip.
