Briggs Marine, a world leader in the provision of marine and environmental services, has announced that it has extended its partnership with Peel Ports London Medway for the provision of marine services at the Port of Sheerness.
The continued working relationship includes marine services for the port and Medway Navigation and mooring services for the various berths in the port. A significant investment will be made in modernising the existing fleet with the build of three new line handling vessels, a multi-purpose workboat and a harbour patrol launch.
Richard Goffin, Port Director for Medway and Great Yarmouth comments: “We’re delighted to extend our already strong partnership with Briggs Marine. It’s important we have a reliable and respected industry partner to help us achieve our ambitions. Briggs Marine has a strong track record for delivering safety and customer service, both of which are paramount to Peel Ports.
The existing Pilot Launch Service at Mersey in partnership with Briggs Marine has, been a great success, as has the national ‘Aids to Navigation’ programme. Our continued work with Briggs Marine is testament to this and will enable a closer working relationship including river debris removal, river patrols and emergency response, as well as a staged upgrade and renewal of our operating vessel fleet. Safety is our number one priority and this investment demonstrates the importance we place on ensuring our people, customers and cargo are kept as safe as possible.”
The Port of Sheerness is well known for its strong performance in forest products and finished vehicles, and also handles a substantial amount of steel, agribulks and other dry bulks.
Rob Baker, Group General Manager at Briggs Marine comments: “This extended partnership is testament to the proven track record Briggs has established in successfully delivering marine services at other UK ports including Liverpool, further strengthening our position as the leading provider of marine services.”
